Why isn’t being a homemaker (a housewife) enough???

Hey everyone…I had gone to my mom’s place for a very short (teeny weeny) holiday…it was nice…. now I am back to the good old grind…well its not so much of a grind as some people would like us to believe…I quite like being a homemaker…a glorified housewife and its not easy being one…just because we let go of careers to take care of our home, doesn’t mean that we are less smarter, intelligent than our career oriented contemporaries. I agree I miss the deadline buzz, the endless cups of coffee…the appraisal butterflies in the stomach; its just that the priorities have changed…and don’t we say “change is the only thing constant’…maybe I would get back to working full time…off course the focus has to be and will be divided between home and work…so it would have to be normal work hours, and no overtime etc…etc. Also its the quality time than the quantity of time that is important for the family (especially the children)

Most of the people I know, constantly advise (more like bug me) me to start working, and keep telling me that I am simply wasting my talents by sitting at home!!! Though I am content with my life just now, with these advices it’s a catch-22 kinda situation…and I go off on a strange tangent…on top of that…add to this the constant comparison between the working and the non-working (done by the not so better half;);) …just irks me to no end…

All this leaves me with this question "Is being a homemaker such a lowly job??? Why isn’t it enough??…Its quite a task to manage the home…and requires as much if not more ‘energy and skills” for running a smooth home in comparison to managing a career…It takes great strength and character to become a homemaker…So all you brave women out there who decided to become a homemaker foregoing a career…three cheers…hip-hip hurray! hip-hip hurray! hip-hip hurray! So chin up (collars too)!!!

  1. And housewives...measure themselves with the yardstick of the world and themselves feel they aren't doing enough...this is profound!
